A $3 a month charge that many electric consumers have been paying since 2009 is about to disappear.
CenterPoint Energy is eliminating its $3.05 a month surcharge that helped pay for installation of “smart meters” across Houston. More than 2.3 meters have been installed, most of which were done by the end of 2012.
