Critics assailed Austin Energy’s proposed rate increase from all sides Thursday, leveling accusations against the utility that ranged from lying about its operating costs to discouraging rooftop solar power to making the poor pay an inordinate burden of the rate hike.
“This increase is upside down and backward,” said Carol Biedrzycki, executive director of the Texas Ratepayers Organization to Save Energy, uttering a phrase used throughout an hours-long public hearing.
