Aug. 3 — Houston-based CenterPoint Energy, the electricity and natural gas distributor, reported an income of $135 million, or 31 cents per share, for the second quarter, as compared to a loss of $2 million, or 1 cent per share, during the same period last year. The company benefited from rate increases as well as an increased customer base, which has been steadily growing.
