Driving through West Texas at night, you might see the glow of an oil rig cutting through the darkness.

With oil production booming in the Permian Basin, oil and gas companies are major users of local electricity.

“Yes, our industry use is a significant amount (of electricity),” Permian Basin Petroleum Association President Ben Shepperd said.

But not all processes are tapped into the electric grid.
