Oncor Electric Delivery has begun construction on a switching station in north Ector County, nearly one year after the Public Utility Commission of Texas issued its approval of a 138-kilovolt transmission line to be built between West Odessa and Highway 158.

The Ector County North switching station, also known as a substation or collection station, is being built five miles east of Goldsmith on Highway 158 as part of a Public Utility Commission project known as a Competitive Renewable Energy Zone, or CREZ.
